An Update on Our Life

Today is a big deal.  The grocery store behind our apartment that has been under construction for 10 months is having their grand opening.  It is fabulous, and big, and I am so happy that I finally get to stop fighting for a parking spot at the grocery store a mile away.  I heard the construction noise all the way up until 10pm last night, but now it's finally over.

This week is finals week and I am in my usual avoidance stage.  It is so daunting to try to remember everything you read or heard in the last 10 weeks.  I'm giving myself another hour before I dive into my books.

We have started up our crazy travel weekends again, but it is such a blessing to get to be with our family.  Last weekend was spent getting our hopes up that Daniel's brother's team would take the National title for college basketball.  They came in second in a devastating loss by only 3 points, but we had the time of our lives in Virginia.  (Plus, it was 80 degrees there!)  Next weekend we'll go to Hanford to spend time with family.

These are my nieces in their sweet flower dresses and the wedding shoes I bought yesterday.  Don't the girls look so precious!?  Next week I take my dress in for alterations and soon we'll start shopping for groomsman ties and Daniel's suit.

Happy Spring!  It's not here in Portland yet but I know it's coming!  Last year I remember a lot of rainy days during spring quarter but we'll make it through.

Happy New Year's Eve

Happy New Year's Eve everyone!  Are you making any resolutions?  I don't usually but this year I am feeling the need to push myself at the end of my college experience.  So I guess mine would be more like goals for the next six months.

  • I am taking Nike literally because I have to "Just Do It".  There is no more planning, just making it through each school and nanny day.
  • I resolve to fulfill each task on my planner, even though some of those tasks require extra time at the library or wearing exercise clothes to school so I can't justify missing pilates.
  • I resolve to end the 'poor me' monologues (which play too often in my mind) and to focus on what's good about my life right now.
  • I resolve to take both actuary preliminary exams before my graduation date, so that I can walk right from the graduation stage into a new situation.
  • I resolve to wake up, and to get dressed and ready on purpose.
  • And, (this one's the hardest one!), I resolve to accept the rain.
Enjoy your New Year's Eve!

Trick-or-Treat!

Smell my feet!

I got to go trick-or-treating last night with three ninjas, a power ranger and a princess.  I felt a little guilty having that much fun because I know the parent's of one ninja and power ranger were sad to have to miss it.  One's kids are only little so long!!  But I had the time of my life. (And it didn't rain!)  A blue sky never goes unappreciated around here.

Under the Weather

We finally made it to the weekend!  I have been under the weather this week and I am so excited to kick off the weekend feeling better.  I decided to celebrate tonight with a much awaited purchase.  I got my rain boots!  And not too soon either as it was quite a rainy day.

Since it has been a week of sniffles and sore throats, I don't have much to share other than my various remedies.  I have been introduced to elderberry syrup as a cold remedy, and though I can't say for sure whether that made a difference, the day after I had a dose I felt much better.  I also drank Emergen-C and Airborne on a daily basis.  And on the last day of my sickness (yesterday) my body was craving greens.  I had a whole plate of kale and it was like I couldn't get enough.

Anyway, happy Friday readers!  And I hope the changing weather hasn't had its way with you!

Gearing up for Rain

I am in a planning mode today.  After Daniel left for work this morning, I started thinking about how soon school is starting which of course led to thinking about how I can prepare for it.  As you know I have been in a fashion funk lately, so I went right to my closet to see if I could dig up some outfits for school.  Unfortunately, my wardrobe is not ready for school because I realized it is not ready for rain!

In the two winters that I have lived in Portland, I have gone through many pairs of shoes.  The problem is that I always think walking tennis shoes are going to cut it, but I always find myself begging for the rain to stop because my shoes are so worn out and painful.

So #1 on the list is to get some rainproof shoes!  I think I should get boots and flats because I can't do boots that often due to a high bone on my foot (thanks Grandpa Nielsen, I think...although you probably have someone else to thank for yours.)

I'm thinking these sperry flats and these sporto boots...??  But I probably will have to buy them from a department store so I can try them on.

Another funny thing is that I haven't had an umbrella for over a year!  Ridiculous, I know, but I lost mine somehow and never bought a new one.  So I'll have to buy an umbrella because it will make it so I can wear non-rainproof shoes on the lighter rainy days.
